Sajecki Planning Inc. was retained by Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services in 2024 to obtain approvals from the City of Mississauga to permit a temporary housing solution for new immigrants and government-assisted refugees.

The site is located within the heart of Mississauga, in proximity to an excellent transit network and is adjacent to several amenities, including retail stores and community services.

The proposal retained the existing three-storey retirement home on the site, converting the existing 77 units into short-term accommodation for immigrants and refugees. This required a minor variance to permit Transitional Housing, a use recently defined in the City of Mississauga’s Zoning By-law 0225-2007, but not permitted in any zones within the City.

This project is the first Transitional Housing use approved in the City of Mississauga through the Committee of Adjustment and will provide a soft landing for new Canadians.
