In 2020 Sajecki Planning Inc. was retained by the City of Markham to explore the feasibility of extending the Yonge subway north from Finch Station to Richmond Hill Centre. The integration of land use and transportation planning was a critical component of this process.

The Study began with an in-depth existing conditions analysis and review of applicable planning policies at the Provincial, Regional and Municipal levels. Subsequently, Sajecki Planning Inc. delineated boundaries for each potential Station Area and calculated population and job density scenarios that informed policy recommendations to permit transit-supportive densities along the Yonge Street corridor as required by the Growth Plan. Finally, a comprehensive set of recommendations were established pertaining to policy and regulatory amendments, implementation, and phasing.
